Description

An original and vintage 3"x 5" KSC Gemini Mission Simulator (GMS) and Lunar Module Simulator (LMS) patch - I know of only two in existence.  It has a bare cloth backing and is missing a small bit of edge felt from either being sewn onto a jacket or from insects.  It consists of a blindfolded eagle, a representation of the moon, a data stream and bit bucket, and a red bar (bar sinister).  As explained to me by the head instructor at the LMS, the interpretation of the symbols is a bit difficult, but it basically means that we fly the world blindfolded (the simulators), in order to land on the moon, using a data stream and bit bucket.  The bar sinister (red bar) represents that the KSC team was a secondary outfit compared to the Houston setup (in their mind at the time), and the data stream represents the punch tape used to load the computers at the simulators.  Punch tape was only used during the Gemini simulations, leading me to believe this patch was designed at that time, but still used during the LM period.  Extremely rare.
